France Photo Diaries: Part 1 - Lyon
Yoga in the daisy fields, lots of sunshine and it’s finally jeans-and-cardigan season!
Have you ever got your first flight delayed so much that you weren’t sure if you’d make it for the next connecting flight—but then totally made it with some unexpected VIP treatment which got you to the gate in time?
That was us on our way to Lyon from Singapore via Frankfurt. Our first flight was quite delayed, leaving us barely 30min from arrival time to the boarding time of our next flight. Once we disembarked our very comfortable Singapore Airlines flight, we were greeted by an airport official with a “Lyon” sign, who then took us into a private mini-bus, which drove us directly to a special customs that I assume is normally meant for passengers like us. Once we got our passports checked, we went back into the same mimi-bus through another gate, and were driven right to the boarding gate of our next flight.
This special transfer completely took the stress off me, as all parents travelling with young toddlers would know how challenging it can be moving through transit in a scenario such as this. Honestly, even if we hadn’t made it for our connecting flight, I would have been totally fine with staying a few hours in transit at the Frankfurt My Cloud Transit Hotel, which we did several years back when our first child was just 6 months old, due to a long layover.
Hey, we made it, but 2 of our 3 luggage’s didn’t. So we spent the first 2 days with limited resources—I need to thank my foresight in packing extra sets of clothing for the children in our carry-on. And also, of course, thank goodness for family, who are the main purpose of our trip in any case.
I’m glad everything turned out fine, nothing got lost, and everyone is well rested today. The weather has been beautiful and feels nothing like winter. It may be 13 degrees Celsius outside, but with the sun, it totally feels like spring is upon us and we’re fine even in just tee-shirts and pants.
France is always a welcome trip for my body and soul. When nature’s filled us up for the day, what else comes next other than goûter? So we split up and some of us walked 10min to the nearest open bakery to see what we could find (it was a Monday, so not everything was open).
It’s Day 3 as I’m writing this today, and I’m planning to head downtown alone to get some shopping done (kids are being looked after today by a nanny). I’m looking forward to perhaps dropping by some bookstores and kids stores to see what cool finds I’ll chance upon. Goodness me, perhaps some unique homewares too?
Part of me is relieved that our luggage’s finally arrived last night, because I no longer need to stay in my Uniqlo heat tech from head to toe, but wear an outfit I’d actually properly planned pre-trip. It’s finally denim and cardigan season!
I had some time before leaving Singapore to switch the bag strap of my Rouseau with one of a more appropriate length, and add some colour to the handle with a scarf (also from Longchamp). I know it’s not the most even but for a first attempt I’d say it’s a good pass. Cardigan, top and jeans are from H&M, while my lace-up boots are from Bocage, which I bought during last year’s trip back.
